General Consular FAQ

Practical answers covering Power of Attorney, PCC, payments, delivery and opening arrangements.

Power of Attorney

Executants normally sign before the consular officer and must attend in person unless the document follows the applicable DFAT-authentication route. Use recent photographs of both executants and recipients. Overseas PoA documents may be prepared on plain paper, with applicable stamp requirements completed in Bangladesh.

Police Clearance Certificate

The Consulate does not issue the PCC. Overseas Bangladeshis obtain consular attestation of the passport and authorization letter before applying directly to the Bangladesh Police authority.

Australian documents

Australian documents must generally be authenticated by DFAT before consular attestation.

Payments

Cash, personal cheque and direct deposit are not accepted. Visa or Mastercard debit/credit-card payment is available at the Consulate with a transaction surcharge. Payments to the Canberra High Commission cannot be used in Sydney.

Postal delivery and representatives

Postal return requires a self-addressed prepaid express envelope with signature on delivery. A representative needs the applicant's signed authorization, photo identification and the original Delivery Slip.

Opening arrangements

The Consulate is closed on weekends and public holidays. Mobile consular camps may occasionally be arranged in regional locations.
