Eligibility
Applicants must be over 18, hold a Bangladesh passport and a 17-digit Bangladesh birth certificate with matching details, and must not already hold or have previously applied for an NID.
Application process
Apply online through the Bangladesh Election Commission NID portal. Email the application and checklist documents to nid.sydney@mofa.gov.bd. The Consulate will advise the biometric enrolment date; the Election Commission completes verification and produces the card.
Biometric enrolment documents
Bring the printed online application, original and copy of the Bangladesh passport, original and copy of the 17-digit birth certificate, and one recent passport photograph. Applicants from specified Chattogram-region districts must also complete the Special Information Form.
Fee and processing
No payment is required. Processing time varies because the relevant Upazila Election Office verifies the submitted information. Additional identity, family, education, nationality, utility, marriage or tax documents may be requested.
