Bilateral trade
Trade between Bangladesh and Australia has expanded substantially. Bangladesh's principal exports include ready-made garments and textiles, with leather goods, footwear, processed food, fish and jute products also represented. Australian exports to Bangladesh include cotton, wheat, pulses, fruit, oilseeds, dairy products, minerals, metals and industrial raw materials.
Trade framework
Bangladeshi goods have received duty-free and quota-free access to the Australian market since 2003, subject to rules of origin. The countries signed a Trade and Investment Framework Arrangement in 2021 to expand cooperation in sectors including agriculture, infrastructure and education.
New South Wales
NSW accounts for a significant part of Australia–Bangladesh trade. Textiles, clothing and footwear dominate Bangladesh's exports to the state, while NSW also contributes to Australian exports into Bangladesh.
Investment opportunities
Priority and high-potential sectors include agribusiness, garments and textiles, leather, light manufacturing and engineering, power and energy, electronics, ICT, plastics, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, shipbuilding and infrastructure.
